Default How to fill the console hole for the old autopilot

So, I bought this really neat TR-1 to replace the Raymarine unit. But the RM has a control panel that required a hole in the console. The TR-1 does not. So I have a hole in the console to fill.

I found this. It works with a magnet stuck on the windlass gypsy and counts the turns in and out. Want 200 feet or rode out? Punch in 200 and hit the button. When you press the "up" button, it stops short so you have to bring it up the last 4 feet with your finger on the button so it goes over the roller correctly. I'll let you know how it works.

Kern you still need to mount the tr-1 AP control on the dash...I put it right where my RM display was... by creating a 1/4 starbord plate to cover the hole like this:

Finished Install

That is a superb windlass setup. Is that on your boat?

I do have a "problem" when it comes to electronics and gadgets. But I have a fair amount of console space to fill with all kinds of weird stuff.........

I read the TR-1 manuals and know the control can be surface mounted, which is what I'll do. But I am going to put it in an easier to reach location. The windlass display looks like the perfect thing to stick in the old location.

I've ordered the chain counter and will report on how it actually works once I get it out of the box.
