Default Optimax oil or not?

Got a question for some of ya'll.Can one use Quicksilver DFI prem syn oil in a optimax?See,the problem I am having is getting optimax oil.I had searched the web for this answer and found different answers. Now I have to drive over 35 miles one way which I had done in the pass.At that place they sell it,it is in 1 gallon jugs.I use on a avg of 4-5 gallons per fishing trip. When I do make my trip to buy,I pick up no less then 10 gallons at a time. Now at the local walmart, they are selling this Quick silver syn DFI oil at a cost about $3.00 less then what I pay for true Optimax oil.I do run quicklean every other tank of fuel which is keeping the plugs carbon free and I am sure any oils used in a optimax will carbon up anyway. The money savings is not that much of a big deal.It is just a pain in the rear end having to dive to get the optimax oil. That kills a day when I have to do that.

I use Quicksilver DFI exclusively in my Optimax 150 and Quicksilver Premium Plus in my EFI's.

Glen E,

Wow, this is timely. I'm repowering next week with used '07 225 Opti's that have been running the Merc Premium Plus oil which I have been told is OK re: the warranty. My question is...........is there any benefit in switching to Optimax Oil? What would I gain?

Hal

switch....runs cleaner, plugs last longer, does not stall around docks and no crap on the prop hub...some feel penzoil syn works well too but for sure prem plus is crap in opti's - I owned two sets of opti's - trust me..it's worth the money....just get the prem plus low in the tank and load in the opti oil...they mix OK.......

Thanks Glen,

We're installing new tanks so I'll start with full tanks of Optimax oil. Is it true the use of Premium Plus oil has not voided the warranty?

no you're fine....there is no "warranty police"...both will work...but opti's work better with opti oil...it's not a scam - try them both and you tell me....

Thanks Glen. That Quicksilver DFI syn oil doesn't state it is Optimax oil,but what the hell,I will give it a try. Both of my oil tanks are just about dry now.6 gallons please!Ouch!

Glen,on a side note. What type of transducer you are using and were is it mounted at?

the DFI in "Quicksilver DFI" stands for direct fuel injection. The Optimax is a DFI motor and thus it stands for optimax oil

I have both a transom mount and a P66 shoot thru...both work fine for me as I am not a serious fish guy - query Jim Z here for good transducer advice....
