Taking advantage of the spectacular weather this week I had the opportunity to fish on Wednesday and Saturday.
Wednesday I fished with a couple of friends. The bite on Wednesday was slow to develop as we fished and jumped from spot to spot until around 12:30 when it turned on. The larger fish were both caught on fresh Squirrelfish. We kept three nice Red Grouper from 24” to 26” and a good sized Kingfish. We also released a healthy keeper Red that went 22”.
Jack’s hooked up!
Chris at work, the man is good with pliers….
The water conditions for our 23 mile run in. We cruised nicely at 48 mph and had a nice wide open run reaching 63+ mph.
Wednesday’s catch.
Chris’s nice Kingfish caught on the bottom while Grouper fishing.
Saturday I fished with a real fisherman……my son Matt. We left the dock around 7:00 in the fog and on the way out the fog was pretty solid until about 15 miles offshore. The bite on Saturday took no time to develop and by 11:00 we had a couple of quality Red Grouper in the boat including a fat 29” and a solid 25”. We also released a 23” Red Grouper that any other day we would have been more then happy to have.
Matt’s hooked up with what we knew was a quality fish that we suspected hit a Squirrelfish.
What Matt brought up was a 29” Red Grouper (his personal best) and an 18” Gag Grouper that we released. He was all smiles.
Later we moved closer inshore to around 50’ and Matt got this nice 22” fish on a MH GLommis with 3000 Daiwa SOL, he had a blast fighting the fish on relatively light tackle.
Once again we were able to run in quickly in near perfect water conditions.
It was a great couple of December Florida days on the water, Life is good………….
