Default Custom built 18' boat

Here it is running up the Wando River with the proud builder at the wheel.

In the last pic you can see the teak toe rails on the forward deck to keep fly line from going over the side. The inner cockpit ring is also teak. The boat was built as a project by my dad. It all started with just a set of prints purchased off the internet and a stack of wood and fiberglass cloth. Any questions just ask. If I can not answer I can ask him. He is going to have someone else build the poling platform.

Yep, you can now get the boat as a kit w/ all the wood pre-cut. It was not available when he started that one last winter. But it seemed to be priced in line with getting the plans from them and wood from other sources. Plus unless they changed the plans having the wood precut would be a huge help. The plans can be a little vague.

With the little zuki it runs mid 30's. I know that is not very fast by today's standards but it is good enough for him and has me interested in doing the kit myself with the same power.

What size Suzuki do you have on it? I thought about building a PH16 or PH18. Wanted to see one up close first though. Do you know what the total cost to build was?
Thanks!

Zuki 70 I believe. Total cost unsure of because of lots of variables. I would definately look at the kit they offer. Some of the things that can run up cost are things like the pop up cleats, fuel tank, running lights, and paint. If you have never built a boat before or are not familiar with the amount of time needed to finish a wood a glass project out to a smooth finish you might want to build a kit kayak first. That way you get a clue as to the amount of work needed on a smaller scale and see if it is for you. The boat will be in Georgetown SC for the wooden boat show this Sat. if you are interested. If you stop to talk to him about it bring a Snickers bar because he is proud of it and will talk your ear off. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. If I don't know I can ask him.
