Default Post Irene Report from Hatteras Island

Well, things are slowly getting back to normal, residents of Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras are allowed to return starting today.

They are slowly letting them get back to there homes according to what village they live in and by alphabetical last names.

Here is a link to the procedures: http://www.co.dare.nc.us/irene/evaclift.pdf

Residents of Avon and Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo are not allowed to return yet. Those villages on North Hatteras Island took a beating and have as much as 5 feet of water in some houses. Lots of debris and clean up everywhere up there. Lots of folks lost alot if not all of the possesions and some homes. We were generally spared by comparison

Non-resident property owners will likely be allowed back soon after residents.

No word on when visitors will be allowed back on Hatteras Island.

The Island's electric is being run by large diesel generators at all of the substations until the main transmission lines on Pea Island can be repaired.

HWY 12 on Pea Island is broken in several places, and the State is working on it quickly and should be repaired in 3 weeks or so.

As far as fishin, we may not be able to run any charters out of Hatteras until they allow visitors to return and that may not be until the road is fixed.

That being said all of you folks with trips on the books in September your deposits will be refunded or you can reschedule you trip for sometime in the future.

If I receive any updates, I will post them.

Thanks folks.
