Thoughts?
Don't know which gears yet....
1200 hours since rebuild (scary, but I'm not familiar with diesels), I'm just now getting into boatdiesel.com
Thanks

Nope, Black Watch 30 in Morehead City....
Dawiggs brought up some good points about inboards vs outboards today down at the dock. I should probably listen to him, but I'm young and stupid.
He made very good sense.
We did a drive by today, everything looked normal on your rig.

Should be real good motors, there's a guy down in Avon who is a semi-retired diesel mechanic, used to be a certified Cummins mechanic. He does Ernie Foster's boats(Albatross Fleet), and they all have versions of that motor. If you know anything about Ernie, then you have to be assured that they are reliable, economical motors. It is the same block as the one in Dodge pickups, been around for a long time. I would be more worried about the hull, I think Blackwatches have a cored hull.

the 6b's are great engines...the early model 300hp versions had overheating issues, now, they're straightened out...these engines will probably go down as one of the best engines ever produced...1,200 hrs is nothing...

Great motors the higher hp had some overheating problems with aftercooler. but lower hp flawless motors. some don't like the raw water pumps on some models but never had any problems.
Blackwatch nice boat but remember they are cored hulls.

Thanks Chaser...
There are some really good deals out there right now.
I'm not scared of a cored hull if it surveys OK, I can fix whatever is broke on a hull, the motors are a different story, especially the computerized outboards.

I love those motors - We re-powered our last boat with a pair in the 370B configuration from a pair of Volvo TAMD70E (300 HP) - added all that hp and shaved 2600 lbs off the boat - it was overbuilt and tipped the scales at 24,000 lbs. They ran great for 7 years until we sold the boat. It was like a new boat. same gallons er hour as the volvos but my cruise went from 19 to 23 knots. And that was loafing. The 370s were rated to run at 3K top end and cruise up to 2800 - I rarely had a day nice enough to do that comfortably. For the most part I ran between 2200 and 2400 RPMS, babying the motors.
When I did the research on the repower we were considering the Cummins or Cats - Yanmar were the "new guy on the block" and we shied away. The Cummins were lighter than the Cats, had fewer moving part and I did not have to change from 5" exhausts. The Cats required 6". Cummins had the better warranty - which was even better that I did not have to use it for anything.
Finally - what sold me was the article that talked about how these engines were the only recreational evenings to survive the Navy Continuous Operating Test - or something to that effect. basically they run the engines for crazy hours at WOT with sub-par fuel and then tear them down for the results.
Anyway - we loved'em - we were sorry we didn't make the change sooner. I'll never forget one two day trip from Montauk. went to the Fishtales at Block Canyon - overnighted - trolled the entire next day with a steady pick of mahi and longfin albacore - all the way to East Atlantis Canyon. Then about 4:30 in the afternoon (we had planned on staying out another night) nailed a Quad of Bigeye from 100-225 lbs. Decided to go in - punched up the GPS - 112 NM to the Point. Put em up to 2700 RPMs and were in in 4 hours and 15 minutes - Total fuel burn for the whole trip was 240 gallons. It was my trip of a lifetime.
