I agree, John. It sure does look like the test that Scott Henley did when they rigged the 350's.
I am on my second set of Yamaha 208's and I have never owned Verados. But if I buy 225 horsepower, I really expect to get 225 horsepower. But somehow, it is perfectly legal and ethical to lie about the power your engines make, as long as you are within 10 percent.
Now I can understand production variations of 5 horsepower in mass produced engines, but not 22 horsepower. My 208's all came with decals that said 225, so let's do some math. If Yamaha is being just as honest with what they call the 350, they ought to make about 320, but that still makes 40 more horsepower for the pair than the Verados.
So, if that 40 extra horsepower comes in late, it is no wonder than a boat with 40 more horsepower and about 500 more pounds hanging on the transom would get its butt kicked in a drag race.
Wanna see a real contest? I've got a great idea that will keep lots of folks happy! Let's put three Yamaha 225s on something and run that "675" Yamaha horsepower against 600 Verado, E-tec, Honda or Suzuki horsepower. I get to bet on the non Yamaha package...........
I think there was one bit of BS in the video. I've had helms that squeaked like that. I don't think it was power steering related. It seems to be typical of the Teleflex tilt helm.
I don't understand the marketing logic in bringing out an engine that weighs that much without it making enough horsepower to make up for the weight. I want my anchors on the front of the boat.
