The ballast tubes seem to be in many alloy boats in your neck of the woods. It is a very good idea, is there any downside to having them?

All is good so far. They have been around for a while but Fisher seems to have perfected the system. They act as stringers as they are welded to the cross members & really beef up the structure. The hull is sealed under the deck & is self draining, a point I neglected to mention.
