Welder, it's about a 20 mile run from Venice Marina to the mouth of South Pass. So yes, it would be a 40 mile run to where he went I'm sure.
I've been in and out of South Pass, Southwest Pass, and Tiger Pass and they are all pretty well marked with markers and rock jetties. Saying that, I do have a friend who ran his boat on to the rocks at South Pass a few years back before the jetty was built back up with more rocks.
