Welder, it was 15 pound Pink Ande "leader".....and 50# Stren super braid line.
No record here, except for my largest on my "float-rig", our traditional N.E. Fla Speck system.
The N.E. Florida, S.E. Georgia Float-rig.....used in places where theres current (IE: large tide swings) and is adjustable to depths from 2' to 25'.
Can be much like fly fishing a stream, mending the line is needed in wind and current, bait placement is crucial (presentation) usually live shrimp. Long rods are used to mend line, set hook from far distances. Bait casting tackle is needed...spinning reels are frowned upon! Always anchor in front of intended area to drift float over, keeping bait 1 foot off bottom (set stopper knot at desired depth) Use near docks, edges, rocks, jetties, drop off's, where fish stage up. Keep away from intended structure.....stealth them. Use Braind lines they "Float" with the float......mono sinks.
From Tarpon to Pompano......I catch it all on "the Float", and specialize in this style of fishing 12 months a year, with specualized tackle and techniques.
Our tides average 4-6 feet so we always have enough current to send the float back to where the fish are from an anchored (quiet) boat.
-Have 100 live "river crickets" aka: Shrimp...WILL TRAVEL.
