Guys,
Even though the weather was not the best through out the week, we did manage to get offshore for a couple of days during the week of the TBR Fest last week. The first day it was Mark (offshore), John H, and myself. It was one of those mornings where the pond was like a sheet of glass going out. Just had to wonder if it was going to be too pretty of a day. Put lines in just S of the point on a nice temp break and started trolling towards the deeper water. BAM 4 lines go down. The YF are hungry. Kept one on and the other 3 came off. Nothing like happiness pulling hard back on a strong YF.
Looks like he's enjoying himself.

Mark did a nice job gaffing the tuna. That's one YF that did not get away.

That was about all there was for the tuna bite for us that day. Spent the rest of the day trolling through scattered weeds picking up a gaffer every so often.
Here's one of them now.

We ended the day with 3 gaffers and one yellowfin tuna about 50 lbs. Lost a couple of gaffers at boatside.

All in all it was a great day on the water with some great friends. Definitely was a good shakedown cruise for the new boat.
The following Tuesday was the next day out of OI. It was just John H and myself. We started off running about 40+ miles out of OI at a 147 course heading to the 450 line. We hit a temp break with 74.5 degree water. Time to put the lines in. Set out the center rigger, long riggers running all B/W witches and Islander. Set a P/W sea witch out on the port short and put a blue and silver daisy chain on the right short. Game time now boys. Started rigging the 2 flat lines and Bam 3 lines take off. We look back in the spread and see 2 billfish airborne. Talk about the adreneline pumping. Hit the autopilot (greatest thing ever), John takes one of the White marlin and I get on the rod with the other. 3rd line was hit by a bull dolphin (he pulled off. lol) While we were fighting these 2 white, 2 more bills come up in the spread and began slashing the remaining 2 baits. Now this is defintely the way to start a morning.
Here is one of them boatside.

We ended up releasing the 2 whites.
Here I am with a picture of mine.

Got a call from Mark (offshore)

saying the were getting overtaken by the dolphin. So we begin trolling back up the hill to where they were. Found a beautiful weedline and began trolling along it. Wasn't long before we had picked up a couple of gaffers.

Decided to go in search of some tuna, Kept hearing Relentless talking about the tuna bite he was into so we started heading north back towards the point. About midday, the bite seemed to have slowed so we deployed the planer rod running a Black and red Islander rigged with a short trace of wire. Thankfully. we were watching the spread and the planer gets hit. John reels it in and it's not until we get it boatside that we just hooked the first Mako for the boat and for either of us.
Although the weather didn't cooperate, I would defintely say the week was a tremendous success with quite a few first for the boat.
Thanks to Mark for joining us the first first day and Thanks to John. It's always a great time on the pond.
