Friday morning left out a little after 5:00. Lines were wet around 6:30. within 10 min we had 2 yellowfin in the boat. It slowed down after than and we managed to find two dolphin a few hours later. at 1:45 we had a Quad knockdown and Triple catch of yellowfin weighing up to 60 pounds. Got back to the dock around 5:00 p.m.
Saturday we left at the same time and we had a slow morning of just the occasional dolphin and picked up one more tuna. Around 4 the ocean erupted around us with Yellowfin going airborn and some of them were in the 100 pound class. Noone hooked up to them though
Mark and some of the others determined it was way to pretty to get back in time for the dinner and we agreed so we stayed out there and started motoring away from the point headed towards Mark and Chris who kept seeing Billfish. When we got about 8 miles north of the point in about 1500' of water our long line started SCREAMING!!! Dad and Mike G both started yelling fish on. I was up front scanning the water and by the sound immediately thought Tuna b/c of how the drag was screaming. As I was running back to the cockpit Dad yelled "Dolphin and it's BIIIG"!!! We didn't have the cooler that we normally stand on in the cockpit b/c it was full of Fridays catch back at the dock. So I had to stand on th back of the leaning post and pull the big Tiagra 50 out of the rod holder while trying to balance with one hand. After almost having my arm pulled out of socket I was able to get good footing back on the cockpit floor. As the 3 others got the other lines in and Belt on me, I just sat back cause at full drag he was steady pulling line. I ran to the front of the boat and the chase was on. 20 min and many awesome accrobatic feats later he was on the Gaff. We sprinted back to the dock to get a weight before they closed and the weather was awesome enough that we set the cruise control on a brisk 55mph cruise At 5' 6" and 62 pounds he was one Big Bull!!!
we had fun meeting all of the new people and I'd like to definately thank Matt for doing this...can't wait till 09
Folks... that is probably one of the biggest dolphins that you will ever see!!!
That is cool....
The most amazing part was watching him jump. over 5' of fish coming a few feet outta the water is on up there. When he came within view there was a cow that was lit up hanging around when we hooked him, we thought that he couldn't be that long and that was the cow next to him. Thanks for the applause guys
That is one big a$$ dolphin. Pretty work!!!! I sure hope that will be hanging on somebody's wall. A mount is a must on a trophey fish like that. Congrats to everyone involved bringing in that beast!!!

Nice shots....you guys had a nice overall weekend even with the slow fishing. Glad I fed our tuna a few banks sinkers. No really, we had the SKA boys drop us one from a helicopter and all we had to do was gaffe him
Enjoyed meeting and fishing with you ...glad you made it home safe.

That's an awesome dolphin! Nice job guys. Like Mike said on the radio, that thing looks like a sea monster! I was just curious how close y'all came to the state record. It was a 79 pounder caught out of Hatteras in 1983. You boys had an excellent few days of fishing. Nice job!
BTW, got any pics of what the rod looked like in the aftermath?
