Default Oregon Inlet Cut Report......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought I would just give a short report on how the run from Wanchese to the inlet was Saturday.
On the morning run out we went around through hells gate and there is plenty of water all the way to the bridge.
Coming back in we went through the cut. We took the channel with the green and red round markers as soon as you go back under the bridge to the right. It is a little shallow for the first 100yds or so. The depth was from 2.9-4.5 ft but after that it was fine all the way back around to the main channel heading north to Wanchese. Looks like there was another channel due west of this channel and saw a few charters running it. There is a bar between the old channel and the channel due west. I didn't see any entrance markers for the channel they were running but it merged with the old channel well before you get to the starboard turn to OI fishing Center.....Mark
The bar across the Inlet is was 7ft at low tide where we came through in the afternoon. We had a pretty good swell in the morning but no problem making it out or back in........Mark

I will update when I go out again....

Default cut

you guys coming in from out of town, be very careful if you use the cut, just after o.i. fishing center! the cut has been marked very well by a few of the charter boat captains ( a donation jar is always available at the fishing center) the money is used to purchase buoys, line and markers! your donations are much appreciated! but i wanted to let you know that at the last barrel (its blue) you go straight into the main channel DO NOT MAKE THE TURN TO THE LEFT AS YOU DID IN THE PAST! at the blue barrel look straight ahead and you will see the green channel marker, line yourself up with that, and it will put you in the main channel. at the end of the cut there is very little room for error! just a little f.y.i.

Default windy

Just talked with a bud who runs a charter out of odens in hatteras, water was 2' deep in the middle of highway 12 for a couple of hours this morning. winds shifted and the tide started back out, they normaly get it a little harder then we do. They clocked 83mph winds last night! The markers should be fine for sat. just take your time and make the trip while there is light in the sky!

The cut is now very well marked, folks have shifted the buoys from the old channel to the new channel that Offshore described.

Still, best to run it when there's light out and you can see the sandbars.

I'll try and run it this weekend and report back.

Old channel is shoaled at the bridge end, like you said.

The charters and green stick commercial boats have been using the new one that you saw.

See my new post, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, I think I have broke my foot. Dammit!

Anyone available on wed afternoon that can ride with me on the boat and lay out a course on the chartplotter would be much appreciated. After talking to Mark, I definitly would like to eyeball the inlet and channel from Wanchese so that'll be one less thing to worry about on thurs morn. Thx
